EL VINO DE LA SEMANA: ILUMINATI COSTALUPO 2009

ORIGIN:
The vineyards are in the commune of Controguerra at 270 metres a.s.l.

SUBSOIL COMPOSITION:
Quite a loose terrain with small amount of clays.

GRAPE VARIETALS:
Trebbiano 65%, Passerina 15%, Riesling 10% and Chardonnay 10%.

TRAINING TECHNIQUES:
The vineyards are partly trained in tendons with a density of 1,100 vines per hectare, and partly in rows (counter-espalier) with 2,200 vines per hectare. Exposure is partly  north-eastern and partly south-western.


TIME OF HARVESTING AND VINIFICATION:
After a scrupulous selection, the grapes for the Costalupo are harvested in late September, except for the Riesling and Chardonnay which are harvested earlier, usually in late August or early September. Grapes are stemmed and very softly crushed. The must is then fermented in thermo-conditioned stainless steel tanks in order to keep the temperature of fermentation ranging between 18° and 20° C.

STYLE:
Color: straw yellow with greenish highlights.
Nose: fruity, floral, white flowers, delicate.
Flavour: dry, fresh, shows a natural gustative persistence with distinctive character and refinement.

SERVING:
It is a perfect companion to seafood dishes and salads, antipasti (appetizers) and soups.

ANALYTICAL DATA:
Alcohol 12.50 % vol. - Total Acidity 6.00 g/l.
